Can't say I love them, but have to admit to having been to four of the places cited.
By the way: What's wrong with loving the Hoover Dam? It's only 30 miles from my apt.
Wall Drug is a good place to get some ice cream. Mackinac Island is a great place in Northern Michigan with no cars or motorized vehicles allowed. Fort Mackinac is a nice tour.
I never saw the "Dixie Stampede" but have stayed in Pigeon Forge on a motorcycling trip. Right at the foothills of The Great Smoky Mountains.

Yeah, I've been to 4 of them also, and some are good family places.
I couldn't drag my elderly mother out of Wall Drug's refrigerator magnet section (hot tip: have lunch somewhere else before you get that ice cream!).
Mom also loved the "Dixie Stampede," which I have not visited, but I love the Smokies, except for the traffic. But is it cheap?
Key West wasn't exactly cheap--but it's campy and relaxed, especially if you drink (I don't). Yuk on the conch soup. Nice sunsets, but the people gathering to see them are the real spectacle!
And I've watched the Science Channel's specials on engineering marvels, and I would love to visit the Hoover Dam!
I used to enjoy the mechanical museum and camera obscura (kids love the camera) at Cliff House when I briefly worked in San Francisco, and the restaurants have nice views. I see the museum is gone, but what about the barking seals that used to be on the rocks below? I heard they had some misadventure at one point.

I'm thinking about touring the Hoover Dam tomorrow if my cold and sore throat subside. I've ridden there a couple times on my motorcycle but haven't stopped to tour it.
I agree with you about the traffic at the Smokies. Once again, I rode my motorcycle there and had a great time, but the traffic does suck. Had to whack the throttle once or twice to get out of the way of some goof about to hit me in the rear. I wouldn't say it's cheap, but I was camping and not staying in a hotel.
All those places I've seen on motorcycle trips, although my mom's side of the family hails from St. Ignace, Michigan, and I've been to Mackinac Island many times. Fudge, horse-drawn carriages and the Grand Hotel are the main attractions in addition to the fort.
I stopped by Wall Drug while camping at the Badlands National Park in the middle of a heat wave - was 114 or so the day I stopped by on my way to Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park.

That's pretty hot for camping! We stayed at a motel in Custer for a couple of nights and then moved on to a casino-hotel on the Standing Rock reservation. Speaking of South Dakota, we enjoyed that whole area and also visited the Crazy Horse monument--Mom's favorite! I'm not so sure about cutting away the rock under the pointing arm, however!
I did like the French Quarter in New Orleans, and haven't seen it since the flood. They have some nice jazz. I liked other areas of New Orleans, too--the antique bookshops and bakeries are wonderful. The architecture feels very European and the food is downright spectacular.
