Here is a short clip of the birth of one of the finest airlines that ever flew. A story that is very near and dear to my heart, one of my most successful failures ever:

There is no way I would pay to fly today. Planes are like cattle cars, the people dress like they just left the Greyhound Bus station, and they give you peanuts, and ply you with liquor so you won't notice. O'Hare is a disater, and Midway is worse.

The all important fact that the reason businesses exist is because of the customers seems to be lost on a lot of companies anymore.
Aviation used to be a lot more fun before 9/11.

"...There's an amusing story about O'Hare dating back to the 1960s and the civil rights movement. The late Richard Daley had reneged on a promise as mayor to improve job conditions for minorities in the Windy City.
O'Hare was the proudest achievement of his administration, which renowned activist Saul Alinsky quickly took advantage of by scheduling what was billed as a giant poop-in รข;; where hundreds of activists would line up and fill its bathrooms so no one else could use them. Daley did an about-face, post-haste..."
A little off subject but pay attention to that name: "Saul Alinsky". (Hillary Clinton's early mentor and idol.) You will probably be hearing more about his radical influence in the Democratic primaries.

Like back to the private clubs offered by the Airlines? Or designing newer airports to be more user friendly?
At Hobby we used to have a ticket/check-in counter at the parking garage across the street. They could drive up, check their luggage there, valet parking for their car with detailing or a regular car wash while they were gone. From there whisk them right to the front door of the airport, where they could proceed to our Empirian Club if they had time before their flight. Then once on board we tried to pamper them. Our goal was the best service for the lowest price available.

I don't know what determines the cut-off on how many airports are surveyed. Smaller airports are usually a lot easier for passengers to deal with.
For our charter flights, the charter kits we used to use were geared for runways of at least 8,000 ft or longer.
Some of your private airports and Fixed Base Operators can be very luxurious!

I live in Los Angeles. Whenever we fly, we try to go in/out of any of the 5 regional airports, rather than having to endure LAX. Ontario is very nice, just about the right size and pretty easy to deal with since the remodeel is now complete. The signage sucks! So it is quite common to see cars going around 2-3 times before they finally find the proper turn.

Ontario is a nice airport, I have been through there many times.
We flew into LAX, which was handy because Marina del Rey was right there, and was usually where I was headed. It often took less time to get from the airport to the boat than it did to get from the front door of LAX to the gate. Haven't been there since 9/11, but I can just imagine!

One of the safest forms of transportation around.
Be sure and let your Flight Attendant and Ticket Agent know you are a first timer! Most of them love that, a little bit of a diversion to the normal routine. Try to get a window seat for some amazing views, and have a wonderful time! I just bet you are going to LOVE it!

Debra...
You'll be fine as long as you don't use a credit card to rent a parachute...
(lol)
...and DON'T start a 'gang sing' of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" (it's been done ad nauseum)
